Don't Fear Revelation
Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near.
For many Christians, the book of Revelation can feel intimidating. There are vivid symbols, coming judgments, unusual creatures, prophetic events, and passages that require careful study. Sometimes we may wonder if we will ever understand it all. Because of that, it can be tempting to avoid Revelation altogether. But God did not give us this book to make us afraid or confused. He gave it to strengthen our faith, deepen our hope, and help us live faithfully for Jesus.
Revelation begins with a blessing. That is important. The blessing is not reserved for the person who can explain every symbol or place or every prophetic event on a timeline. God promises blessing to those who read, hear, and keep what He has revealed. That word keep reminds us that Revelation is not just a book about what will happen someday. It is a book, meant to shape how we live today.
Revelation reminds us that no matter how uncertain the world may seem, Jesus Christ is still Lord. History is moving according to God’s sovereign plan. Evil will not have the final word. Sin will be judged. Christ will return. His kingdom will come. Every promise of God will be fulfilled. For the believer, those truths are not meant to produce fear. They are meant to produce faithfulness.
When we come to a difficult passage, we don’t have to become discouraged. We can slow down. We can pray for understanding. We can study the context, compare Scripture with Scripture, and allow the clearer passages of God’s Word to help us understand the more difficult ones.
If you are new to studying the Bible, give yourself permission to learn step by step. Keep reading. Keep asking questions. Keep returning to the Word. God patiently grows His people through His truth.
And if you have studied prophecy for many years, remember that knowledge is never the final goal. Biblical truth should always draw us closer to Christ and lead us toward obedience and a transformed life in Christ. The more clearly we understand what God has revealed about the future, the more faithfully we should live in the present.
Revelation ultimately points us beyond events, timelines, and symbols to a Person. Jesus Christ is coming again. Until that day, He calls us to trust Him, worship Him, obey Him, and remain faithful.
